Strategic Planning

"Where there is no vision there will be no commitment"

It is clear that leaders must navigate the journey of an organization and managers must steer so that the journey reaches at its intended destination.  Like navigating, strategic planning is the process of leaders establishing the organizations intentions so that managers of the organizations can focus attention on the effective achievement of desired results.   Leaders of the organization must participate in the development of shared vision.  They must ensure an operational foundation is in place that embodies, communicates, and supports the shared vision of the entity. They must establish the mission or methods to focus resources on the vision. They must also enable development of the infrastructure necessary to accomplish these fundamental responsibilities. If your organization does not conduct regular strategic planning sessions, you are falling behind those that do.  Just as critical to the establishment of the operational foundation is the development and embodiment of a values statement defining how people in the organization will interact with each other. The culture of the organization surfaces through the values present and utilized on a daily basis. Wise leaders will establish the culture through the establishment of a mutually agreeable and therefore shared set of values.

As the rate of change in all human capabilities, systemic disciplines, technological

capabilities, and organizational flexibility continues at an ever-increasing rate, you

simply must plan for change. Change is inevitable. Leaders and managers must facilitate

the movement from where they are today to where they want to be in the future.
