Direct mail marketing

Direct mail consists of any tangible marketing materials sent via the USPS, or any of the private entities, such as FedEx or UPS. This can be a powerful, yet inexpensive way to reach your consumer. When coupled with a highly targeted mailing list, your direct mail marketing campaign can deliver a phenomenal return on your investment while helping to maintain top of mind awareness.

Quality over quantity - targeted direct mail marketing

Direct mail, like any other form of direct marketing, is most effective when it targets your most relevant prospects on a consistent basis. Think quality over quantity. While you could send out a single mailing of your postcard to a mailing list of 50,000 contacts, you will get far better results by sending the same postcard to a mailing list of 10,000 contacts, five times. Because of this, direct mail marketing is a tool that all smaller businesses serious about their growth should be utilizing. With only a small investment required for the initial creation and printing of a direct mail piece, postage (currently 24¢ for 6"x4" postcards) and if you don't already have one, a mailing list, you have the ability to inexpensively reach your prospects on a consistent basis.

Getting started on your direct mail marketing campaign

Unless you have an existing direct mail piece, we will need to create one for you. Whatever format (postcard, sales letter, etc.) is chosen for your campaign, you'll need to allow ample time for layout and design, copywriting and printing. You should try to print up to four times more than you'll need for your initial mailing. You'll invest less per piece in the printing this way, and the remainder will be ready for your future mailings.

Your mailing list will need to be saved in a digital format, such as a database, spreadsheet, or CSV file, otherwise, a mailing list will have to be created or be purchased. The addresses will then have to be verified against the USPS database. It won't do you any good to pay for the postage on a piece that will never go anywhere.

You can generally start your direct mail marketing campaign for less than $1,000, and if you're mailing to a small list of a few hundred contacts, you can get several mailings out of it before you will need to have more printed.
